Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he remembers the nail-biting dying seconds of Swansea's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative shot from 25 yards, and the defender immediately hammered in the deflection before charging toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with supporters mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an unbelievable comeback given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory booked a fourth-round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for having a go from that range," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right defensive wing after the team changed formation. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way the underdogs approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are outstanding but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they always find their target and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just thread a ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It demands a strong mentality and attention just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in his new home. At the London club he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at League Two Salford, before he departed Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was probably a bit naive going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it seems possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the past five games, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

It has been an incredible journey for the youngster from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

The player's single match for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they competed on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he says, smiling. "The days leading up, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I knew I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it reached a stage where I believed I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with a teammate, another squad member, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to spend time with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the next one to stop using the bus and driving. Franco is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on the Tube after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
